Has your Reality Check Bounced?
Facing an increasingly adverse economic environment, most companies initially underestimate the magnitude of the problems they face. They frequently fall prey to inertia underestimating the level of response required. If the company is experiencing a drop in profitability, very often they will just recast their projections in a way that will allow them to simply grow their way out of the problem. The company is just delaying its need to restructure. This scenario is further compounded if these same leaders are blinded by their optimism and make the mistake of not taking timely actions to reduce headcount or restructure effectively.
In addition, companies usually lose the ability to think objectively and also gravitate toward those things they think they know best or look for a single root cause for their problems. The answer is usually more complex and is often the result of multiple issues.
